Q13444 - INFO: WIMS Interface Licensing

An Interface License allows you to connect a WIMS Server to an External Source of data (i.e. a SCADA Historian, LIMS database, etc...).  You can install as many interfaces as you like but you will only be able to enable (use) interfaces up to the number of interface licenses you have purchased.

Example 1: One Interface Required - WIMS to GE Proficy Historian

Hach WIMS is installed on a LAN at the WWTP with the WIMS Server at the plant.  WIMS maintains two (2) facility databases, one database tracks the WWTP data, the other the Lift Station data.   The GE Proficy Historian resides downtown and logs data for WWTP and Lift Stations.  You only need ONE interface (represented by the green arrow)  to pull data from the historian to the WIMS Server since both the SCADA system's data is in one source (the Proficy Historian).

Example 2: Two Interfaces Required

Hach WIMS is installed on a LAN at the WWTP with the WIMS Server at the plant.  WIMS maintains two (2) facility databases, one database tracks the WWTP data, the other the Lift Station data.   You have two SCADA systems with NO centralized Historian.  You need two interfaces (represented by the green arrows) to pull data  from the two sources of data (WWTP SCADA and the Lift Station SCADA) to the WIMS Server.

Example 3: Two Interfaces Required

Hach WIMS is installed at the WWTP and Hach WIMS is installed at the Water Plant (therefore you have two (2) WIMS Servers and two (2) WIMS licenses).   You have three SCADA systems that all feed a central historian.  You need two interfaces (represented by the green arrows)  to pull from the Historian to the two (2) WIMS Servers.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. If I have more than 1 facility database, do I need to purchase a separate interface license for each facility databases?

Answer: No.   If you have a single WIMS Server (the typical situation) you need a license for each source of data you are connecting to.

2. I have a SCADA Interface (one license) and we are about to replace the SCADA system with a new system.  If I change SCADA Systems/Historian/LIMS system do I need to buy a new interface?

Answer: No.  You would simply disable the old interface, install the new interface and enable the new one.  You are licensed for one (1) enabled interface so you are in compliance.  You may need to purchase services to assist in the installation of the configuration of the new interface.
