Q14444 - INFO: Interfacing to Mettler Toledo Balances

Mettler Toledo Balances that support the "METTLER TOLEDO Standard Interface Command Set" (MT-SICS) are able to enter results into a Custom Data Entry cell via Mettler Toledo's Serial Port to Keyboard Software.  This software (free from Mettler Toledo tech support) will allow you to connect your balance to your PC via a Com Port.

Tested with: Mettler Toledo XPE204 (though all newer Mettler Toledo Balances should work).

1. Connect your Balance RS232 port to your PC RS232 (if you do not have an RS232 port on your PC you can use a RS232 to USB adapter).  Contact Mettler Toledo Tech Support for help connecting.

2. Download and install the Mettler Toledo SerialPortToKeyboard (as of March 2017 can be found here). Contact Mettler Toledo Tech Support for help downloading and installing.

3. Run SerialPortToKeyboard.exe and configure as follows (your COM port may be different).  Leave the software running.

4. In WIMS, open your TSS Benchsheet Custom Data Entry form.  Place cursor in entry cell for weight.  Use your balance and send data (depending on settings of your balance data may automatically get sent).  Reading will be entered in current cell in CDE:

NOTE: See Miscellaneous Custom Data Entry Form Templates to download a TSS Benchsheet template.
