Lab 2.3: Designing Monthly Data Entry Forms
Monthly Data Entry is used to enter data into WIMS.  This lab exercise demonstrates how to design a Monthly Data Entry Form:
Monthly Data Entry displays variables in a spreadsheet type layout for data entry and review.  Each column is a particular variable and each row represents a different day of the month.  The forms display one month at a time along with statistics for each variable at the bottom of each column.

In this first section, you will learn how to design a data entry form for the Rocky Creek Treatment Plant. You will be using Monthly Data Entry Form Design.

Step 1. Get into the Monthly Data Entry Designer:

  • Click on Design, Monthly Data Entry Forms.

From the Monthly Data Entry Design form we can create a new data entry screen or edit a previously created data entry screen.  When Monthly Data Entry Design opens it displays the design of the first form that was created.

Step 2: Add a new form

  1. Click the Add New Form button.
  2. Enter “Lab” into the Enter New Form Name input box.

  3. The Enter Key Action list lets you pick what will happen when [Enter] is pressed on the keyboard.  Select “Down” to move to the next day (for the same variable) or “Across” to move to the next variable for the same day.  We will be entering data for one day, so choose “Across” now.
  4. Choose the Heading:

Check Variable Num, Variable Name and Units.
  5. Choose the variables:
    • In the Variables tab, click on the  button.  The WIMS Variable Browser window will open. Select variable 11 (Var #: 11).  Press [Shift] and Click on variable 41.  This will select variables between 11 and 41.  Next, Press and hold your [Ctrl] key while you click on variables 611 and 613:

    • Click  to add the selected variables to the form.

    • Let’s also add the variable 1006, RAS Concentration.  Click on the  button again.  Now select variable number 1006 in the variable browser and click .  Variable 1006 is now part of our form.
    • Next, we need to rearrange the variables on the form in a more logical order.  Let’s group all the BOD’s together than display all the TSS’s.  All we need to do is move V611 Pri Eff BOD up one column. Click on variable 611 on the Variables list then click the move up button.

    • I also want to use this form to record the daily weather conditions.  Use the  button one more time to add V941 Weather Observation to the Variables list.

    • Click .  The new form is automatically saved and the design screen will close.  The form is now ready for use in the Data Manager Menu.
    • To use the form, click Data Manager, Monthly Data Entry.

    • Double click on Lab in the Select Entry Form to Open... window:

The form will be displayed as follows:
